Anyway to control the note length of dragged midi files? Some are 1/16, some are 1/8. I can't quite understand why.

Not length can depend on your rate setting (1/8 -> 1/32) and fill rate (2x -> 8x) if you're using fill on some notes. Also if you've enabled "Stop voices with MIDI Note Off" it's going to give you a different MIDI file result.
