I am running the Microtonic demo and I am unable to open the presets I save from patternarium. Is this due to the fact that I am running the demo?

No, it should work in the demo as well. Are you running the latest version of Microtonic? Patternarium presets are only compatible with Microtonic version 3.0 and newer.
