Please add MPE support to Synplant!

  • Francesco Adornetto

    you are right Pierandrea!

  • Kounsokiri Nonsens

Or maybe support for mts-esp suite? https://oddsound.com/devs.php

  • Tyler Madden

    Why not both?

Please do your wonderful creations right and integrate MTS-ESP AND MPE support!

  • Demian Jakob

yes, please! Push for MTS-ESP and MPE

Just signed in to say that I would love this! A new Osmose owner here and the expressivity of something like that is truly remarkable and would be amazing in combination with the timbres synplant produces!!!

Yes. Please, Magnus !!! If you haven't implemented it yet and if it wouldn't delay the first version of Synplant 2 too much, integrate MTS-ESP and MPE.

Preparing to try S2 with Osmose now. Can't wait!

I'm not sure S2 supports MPE, maybe I'm wrong though.

...been wondering about this too. has it been considered to add mts-esp suport? from what I understand is rather easy for devs to implement it. seems to me synplant 2 + microtuning support would be totally 🤯

  • Andreya Ek Frisk

I wholeheartedly agree with the "varför inte båda" approach here.

On the surface level, it may seem as though you can cover both use cases with MPE only, but from experience (both from dev and user perspective) that turns out not to work so well in practice.

The Dawesome dev had previously taken the stance that MPE (as leveraged by MIDI interceptors like Entonal) is the technology that should enable microtuning. But altered course given this conversation: https://vi-control.net/community/threads/the-dawesome-thread-abyss-novum-kult-love-discussion-new-synth-myth-january-2024.111744/page-94#post-5399859

TL;DR: MTS-ESP is awesome and extremely easy to implement. ODDsounds lead dev is always happy to assist with implementing if you need, but it's so simple you probably don't. Look for yourself: https://github.com/ODDSound/MTS-ESP/blob/main/Client/libMTSClient.h

And if like many people you're wandering what it's all for, here's a taste: https://open.spotify.com/album/3opSGodIaooSGBvI14wPNZ?si=PW-qDkvoS-u_C3jBSFkFTw

Synplant 2 looks awesome btw. Great job!

Im guessing it has to do with the layout being based on semitones. maybe there isnt a feasible way to integrate full microtuning without it becoming awkward...idk just speculating here

Heya, I was just checking if I could automate the pitch of SP2 on a per note basis in my DAW. It didn't work. Is it possible?

    Would love this too!

    It works already.

In Synplant's GUI, open the MIDI settings via the menu...

...and set "Pitch wheel" to 48.

Next, in Ableton's device view, right-click on Synplant's device header and check the box for "Enable MPE Mode"

Now, note pitch envelopes should work.
